Welcome to the Estes Valley Library! This library resides in the heart of downtown Estes Park, gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park!
Celebrating 100 years of library service to the Estes Valley and surrounding communities, the Estes Valley Library was begun in 1916 by the Estes Park Women’s Club. The first library was opened in the schoolhouse with 262 volumes. Now with over 40,000 traditional collection items, and over 300,000 electronic items, the library serves over 12,000 local residents, hundreds of seasonal residents, and many thousands of visitors to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park.
Tim Phelps, a long-time fan of the Estes Valley Library, recommended that we feature one of his favorite sanctuaries. "The framed glass doors open automatically,” he said, “but very slowly and at the last second, when your nose is almost pressed up against the glass doors. Unlike doors at grocery stores, it's almost as if the library does this intentionally, to slow you down a little as you enter, so you have to take a breath! You're entering an amazingly beautiful space of knowledge, wonder and community! This is the feeling I get when I enter my library in Estes Park, Colorado. Everyone who works there is absolutely engaged in a common outcome to make this place the best it can possibly be! I liken it to the inner workings of a beautiful, old clock.”
The motto of the Estes Valley Library is Gather, Learn, Grow.
The classes are amazing! The library offers a wide array of eclectic classes, ranging from Citizenship Classes to Beginning guitar and ukulele classes, not to forget travelogue presentations such as “A Reluctant Traveler to China,” “Our Wonderful World – Botswana,” “Tales of a Wandering Bagpiper,” and “An Interrupted Bike Adventure from San Francisco to Estes Park.”
The goal of the Estes Valley Library is for a literate, informed and enriched Estes Valley. If you are looking for more information please go to http://www.estesvalleylibrary.org
